Matt opened Ancaster Osteopathy and Wellness in 2017 with the intention of creating a practice that would serve the Ancaster community and be the first osteopathic clinic in Ancaster, Ontario. He wanted to provide the best of osteopathy, athletic therapy and massage therapy, to meet the needs of patients.
With over 17 years of clinical experience, his practice follows the philosophy that therapy is most successful when people are treated as a whole, not as individual parts, and his work is focused on finding and treating the root causes.
Education
Matt started getting involved in therapy and treating patients in 1995 when taking a sports injuries course at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). In his third year, he did a sports injury practicum, where he worked with the UNB Men’s hockey team for two years. After that experience, he was accepted to the Athletic Therapy Program at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario. While in his first year, he worked with the Burlington Cougars junior “A” hockey team.
During his second year, he did his work placement at McMaster University. He had a great experience working with the women’s rugby and volleyball teams. After his second year placement, he was asked back and worked with the McMaster field lacrosse team in his third year.
While attending Sheridan College, he was taught by their amazing professors, who taught and mentored him. There were a couple of professors who had amazing manual skills and he found out that they had gone on to do more schooling called Osteopathy.
Matt has successfully completed the Osteopathy program in Toronto at the Canadian College of Osteopathy where he graduated in 2012 after completing his thesis on cranial treatment and its effect of response time.
Career
After graduating from Sheridan College and passing the national Athletic Therapy exam, he got his first job at the AIM clinic in Hamilton. Shortly afterwards he was fortunate to get the assistant athletic therapist job with the Toronto Rock, a professional Lacrosse team. While working with the Toronto Rock, he also had the opportunity to work with Team Canada lacrosse team on different occasions and at the Heritage Cup and World Championships. He worked with the Toronto Rock for 10 years, and since then he has also had the opportunity to work with the Iroquois National team (2015 world lacrosse championships) and Rochester Knighthawks, another professional lacrosse team.
